CONFESSION: I had zero cooking skills prior to AIP.
There. I’ve said it. It’s out in the open, exposed and ugly for all the world to see.
I was the gal everyone teased at allll the family activities for not knowing how to dice an onion, crack an egg, peel a potato without digging half of it out, make gravy without burning it, and certainly not knowing how to clean a chicken.
Christmas was always a pleasure….why yes, I can wash the cranberries! SINCE THAT’S ALL I CAN DO!
So when I set out to clean up my health by cleaning up my diet, I had my work cut out for me. God bless my husband and child for sticking with me through it all!
Now let’s talk about a few things I learned along the way. Namely, FOOD SWAPS.
And no, I don’t mean swapping recipes (although that’s fun, too). I mean healthier ingredients we can swap for the not-so-healthy versions.
If you’re reading this, you’re probably already familiar with the AIP “avoid” list. So, in this post I’ll talk specifically about AIP swaps, though all of these are great for anyone wanting to avoid potential allergens or inflammatory foods (except coconut…potential allergies there 😊).
And for the record, let me just say this is a GREAT time to be creative! Don’t be afraid to get in the kitchen and experiment – that’s how I learned and actually came up with some pretty fun recipes in the process!
Here are a few swaps to get you started (and there is a download link at the bottom!):
